A $1.83

A $1.83

Each day I enjoy a single transaction,
A drive-thru-must...my morning, iced coffee.
But today, for some reason,
There’s intent to make change.
Now that's two separate transactions,
Time just wasted in wait.

I slip back to better days, in my thirties,
When drive-thru employees would know my routine.
Finally her window opens to mine,
But no iced coffee appears,
All I can see is this young person's smile.
Ahh… this life makes sense to me now.

It is her time to be thirty,
It is her time to enjoy the command of the coffee transaction.
And it is my time to let go of the notion
That the best days have past.

It is my time to enjoy the iced coffee,
Regretful revenant, no longer,
Time to believe in second chances.
